What Befalls the Ephemeral
"Memory askew and accusations hanging over her head, amnesiac Nancy Espinosa must prove her innocence as she and other LA inhabitants race around the city of angels to solve a murder conspiracy sweeping the nation. But as she digs further down, the moth starts to question if her image is truly worth saving."What Befalls the Ephemeral is a work-in-progress crime/mystery novel set in late 40s Los Angeles inhabited by a colorfully b&w cast of anthropomorphic characters akin to Blacksad or Lackadaisy. The narrative follows Nancy Espinosa, an amnesiac convicted for murders she doesn't remember—nor believes—committing. In trying to uncover the truth behind her case, as well as other similar scandals plaguing LA, Nancy is joined by fellow runaway Camilla "Cam" Hamid, one of the few individuals to believe in her innocence.Nancy and Cam are then thrust into the thick of several murder cases, of which the two of them have to combine their respective bookish knowledge and no-nonsense attitude to piece together a conspiracy that may or may not also concern the convicted moth. But with their own pasts following close behind them on their trail, a mysterious figure coming up again and again, and the clock ticking on Nancy's dire sentence, things are much easier said than done.
